Default Necro Well Build

Hi guys,

I did a quick search and I am really interested in making a “Well” necro, but I couldn’t find any suggested builds. At the moment, I haven’t captured the Elite well, but I do intend to do that here soon. With that being said, I’d like to keep as many points into Blood magic as I can. Blood magic IMO, is very powerful in the respect of damage and healing. As soon as something dies, I create a blood well and get within its circumference. With 18 points in blood (Bip) this is a 7 regen for 20+ seconds. Even if I stand out of the fray and drop a well on the tankers of the group, I’ve really done them a favor and it helps the monk out as well. I don’t feel like a complete support character, because with a high level of Blood points I can spike pretty well. I like blood wells so much it got me thinking about the other wells. Has anyone used a necro based off of wells? I found it surprising too that the degen wells from death magic, don’t cause the enemies to run. Its not like an AOE effect. I have also researched and found that different wells stack with each other. So Blood well and the Elite well would stack for massive regen. This is the build I currently use, and I’m wanting to alter it to make it more friendly to the other wells available.

Blood 12+3+1 16
Soul Reaping 9 +1 10
(I’m not sure where to put left over points at this time)

Skills

Vampiric Touch (great when stuff is dying quickly all around)
Dark pact (good spammer while standing in a well)
Vamp Gaze ( bread and butter…I think something like 63pts a shot)
Shadow strike (opener…55+55 shadow)
Bip (+2 blood +2 curses)
Blood well (+7 regen for 22 seconds…good for me good for you)
Demonic Flesh ( geez this skill is sick…with all the blood magic used you will fill this up in seconds)
Rez sig (just as a precaution)

I’m at work so I might have goofed up spelling and exact numbers, but this is the jist.

BiP= Blood is Power= sac 33% health, give target other ally X nrg regen for Ys

ATB= Awaken The Blood = +2 BM +2Curses

Now that we took care of that, why aren't you using an elite?

Yes, Blood Well and WoPower do stack. I've run Wells in Fissure and it works amazingly well, esp. vs those nasty spider things in the tunnels. We cleared the tunnels and beach with just 2 eles, 1 war, and myself- rest of the team dropped.

Just use spike skills to kill a single target fast and then use WoBlood/WoPower. Something like:

1- Shadow Strike
2- Vamp Gaze
3- Dark Pact
4- WoBlood
5- WoPower (E)
6- open
7- open
8- Res

You can use all kinds of things for the open slots. Barbed Sig, Life Siphon, Blood Renewal to name a few.

You can also play something like the classic Taint Necro:

1- Tainted Flesh (E)
2- Rotten Flesh
3- Well of Prophane
4- Well of Suffering
5- open
6- open
7- open
8- Res

Desease (4) + maxed WoSuffering (6) = max degen.

A lot of people take Protection support with Taints. Stuff like Aegis for example.

The reason why people only take a couple of wells is normally there isnt enough corpses to make it worthwhile to make a whole build around wells. And you need to be able to do something more, other than support when something dies- you can either pressure degen or blood spike and use wells as a supplement.

Hope this helps.

Hella good,

Yep you beat me to it. I'm using awaken the blood not, bip. Sorry I'm at work and I'm getting all these "blood" terms mixed up. Thanks for your post! I like the spike skills idea to drop something quick to set up a well. I dont have any elites right now because im not that far into the game. I just made it to the desert, and I'm playing this the old school way with no runners doing it all myself with out power leveling etc. Thanks for the tips!!

Talking Well, well....

When you do get that elite (Well of Power), I'm sure you will find yourself replacing the blood well. The WoP recharges in 20 seconds, so you can maintain one up at all times. Keep the blood well if you really want the extra health regen.

Quote:
Bip (+2 blood +2 curses)
Did you mean "Awaken the Blood"? (Gives you +2 blood and +2 curses)
"Blood is Power" gives others massive energy recharge.
You can use the "Offering of Blood" (OoB) elite to recharge yourself.

For Blood magic builds, you have a lot of options for builds:
Orders Necro: Order of the Vampire (OoV), which your warrior will love, though you won't be able to take along WoP - Order of Pain works well too
Blood spiker: Using shadow strike, lifebane strike, vamp gaze, barbed signet. (Try Unholy Feast while in the middle of aggro - kinda fun! And makes for a quick insta-heal!)
Battery necro: Using BiP or Blood Ritual

If you are going offensive with the wells, put some points into Death magic and use Well of the Profane and Well of Suffering. I consider these wells as a secondary choice to other builds, such as Minion Master. If you are running a MM, you can add a well or two of your choice to make life miserable for your enemy.

Necros are the most versatile class, IMO. You have a lot of effective options to play with.

Enjoy!

Actually, if you have a well build I would personally bring both healing wells if you choose to use WoP as your elite.

So..I have been playing gw for about 1 month in total, lvl20 N/me, doing everything on my own (no runs/powerleveling etc). I've tried both SS and MM, and as great and effective as these builds have been proven...I'm not a big fan of them.

Opinions are about to follow (pre warning)

MM- i tend to feel worthless playing this in PVE. I raise undead minions to fight for me (they are pretty powerful), and I am almost (not quite) 100% dependent on corpses. I don't feel as if I am interacting with whats around me, its my minions...so I'm like a queen bee. Casting Blood of the Master, raising minions, the occasional putrid explosion...literally it gets a little old in the action department. I'm quite weak by myself, and most other Necros tend to be MM's so it hard in a group fighting over corpses.

SS-Sick Sick Sick elite. This thing tears stuff up. I'll admit, maybe at this point in time I'm not "good" enough to be playing with an SS build. I have the problem, when a tank aggros a group of enemies (archane echo, SS etc) the enemy I target either strays from its group or he dies suddenly to an elementalist spike etc. I will admit SS works very well, but it also seems to take more effort in a PuG. I constantly cast it and stuff is dying in Aoe to quickly. My skill bar is filled with Nasty hexes and mesmer skills, but I can not even think of going toe to toe with anything. That hurts...I think I am more of a player that wants to be a spiker, or I want to see the damage I am doing, as well as playing a supportive role.

So...this is the build I'm running right now. I'm a squishy so I'm not trouncing off to stand next to tanks. However on the off chance something does break through the tank line, I can hold my own with my blood skills. Its also nice because I play well with other necros. If I am the only necro in the group, then I feel that I am contributing alot of side support. On the other hand, if I am playing with an MM, I dont have to completely change around my skills. Its also a different build than the average.

Now I'm not claiming to own anything in PVP or take Warriors 1v1. I understand my role in the group and I am a supportive role. I'd like to post what I'm working on and I'd like Constructive Feedback. If you see something that you think would work better as something else let me know. I'm completely open to suggestions.

Blood 12+3+1
Soul Reaping 9+1
Inspiration 5 (I spread left over points across my Mesmer skills
Illusion 5 in the chance I steal something with my Insprd Hex)
Domination 5

Skills (I'd like to explain each why im using it)

Vampiric Touch
-I like to use this when I rush to one of my wells if there happens to be an enemy standing there. Its also a skill not a spell so I dont worry about backfires etc...take off crazy damage and can be used rapidly if stuff is dying.

Dark Pact
-This is my spammer. This is one of the skills that I'm pretty set on that I dont want to change. Quick recharge can be applied rapidly when E/X are waiting in line for their nukes

Vampiric Gaze
-my meat and potatoes. Reasonable damage for the cost and charge time etc. I'm always tapping this skill when its readily available.

Shadow Strike
-I'm on the fence on this one. Yes, for an enemy over 50% health this does 100 damage and heals 50. It recharges slow...and has a slower cast rate. I find that I can never pull off 2 Shadow Strikes in a row, because by the time i cast it I will only do a measely 50 damage (below 50% health). My character focuses on killing one creature as quickly as I can and casting a well in that spot... I'd like to look at an alternative for this spell as it stands.

Well of Power (elite)
-I love this spell. Again, I am a supportive character, but this spell benefits everyone. No matter where its cast. Front lines....helps tanks, and eases pressure of monks. Back lines, its a nice protective barrier incase something breaks through, AND all the squishes have energy regen

Well of Blood
-This one I'm on the fence as well...two wells that overlap each other offer 10 hp regen...that is crazy. But I wonder if I could be more useful using something else. I often alternate wells, and while one is charging, that is when I am blasting opponents with my blood spells. By the end of the battle, the field is littered with wells and everyone always comments on how the wells rock.

Inspired Hex
-Utility spell. I use this to just keep me and my team clean...the hex steal is nice, and because I've spread my skills around, I can cast it back with a little oomph.

The last slot always changes....I've bounced around with Archane Echo, Awaken the Blood, Demonic Flesh, Leech Signet, Blood Ritual...

I'd really like suggestions though. Thanks for the read.

Okay, first off, don't spread left over points into 2 attributes that you don't use.

Alternative to Shadow Strike is Vampiric Swarm. Yes it takes longer to cast, yes it takes longer to recharge, but it steals life from upto 3 monsters.

Don't use demonic flesh, it increases the amount of your sac damage.

Blood Renewal is good (self heal), Rez Signet is good, life siphon, parasitic bond, etc. (for PB you need points into curses, unless you just want a cover hex with no real significance).

You dont need to waste the points like that. Pump up inspiration for better nrg Inspired Hex, or put 8 points in Illusion and take Distortion or something. Putting points in something just because you hope to steal a hex or two is kind of worthless unless you know perfectly well what to expect. Example, in Fissure I've run Orders/Curses and I'd take Barrage Rs with me, so what we will do is I'll pump up their damage with OoV/OoP and weaken the enemies with curses. I also used to take Inspired Hex, and steal the Spites from the Shadows and use it.

You dont rly need Vamp Touch. You can put the xtra points in Curses and grab stuff like Shadow of Fear, Reckless Haste, or Enfeebling Blood, or whatever, for support purposes. Shadow Strike/VGaze/DPact is enough of a spike.

Talking Shadow Strike for Blood Spike

Shadow Strike is the first in line for a blood spike. You can supplement the spike with the complementary skill Lifebane Strike from factions. This will give you two armor-ignoring hits with 100+ damage each. (Use Awaken the Blood to pump this up to level 18!)

Don't ever use Shadow Strike on low-health enemies unless you are pressured or it will just finish them off.

Follow that combo with Vamp Gaze and Barbed Signet (no-energy-required damage). Supplement with Vamp Touch if you desire, but I like to stay out of melee range.

Enjoy!
